Texas is a Masonry State
In Texas, masonry buildings have always stood as symbols of permanence, stability, strength and durability and have served as safe havens for residents during natural disasters. As early as the late 1800’s, largely in response to devastating fires like the one in Navasota in 1865, community leaders across Texas began addressing building safety by requiring masonry construction within the fire limits of their cities. These policies shaped Historic Downtown areas and solidified Texas’ Masonry Tradition.
